Starting in 1959, the Cevahir brothers, who had been working in construction separately, came together as a collective company and established the Cevahirler Commandite Company in 1976. Carrying out construction and contracting activities in various construction fields such as schools, factories, hospitals, water and sewerage networks and bridges in Turkey, the group’s timely and successful completion of its project obligations accelerated its growth. As a result, the group entered into construction and contracting activities in Libya through the Libya Construction and Trade Consortium Inc. established in 1975, which marked the beginning of the group’s expansion abroad.
In 1978, the Cevahirler Construction and Contracting Limited Company was established in Saudi Arabia. With the participation of the aforementioned company as the manager, the local construction limited company established in Saudi Arabia has undertaken major projects in this country.
Cevahir has developed projects with its own equity since 1990. These projects were mainly developed in the tourism sector, with the opening of the Libko Hotel in 1992, the Plaza Hotel in 1995, the Grand Cevahir Hotel and Congress Hall in 2002 and the Cevahir Hotel Istanbul Asia in 2012. The group also managed the projects developed in the tourism sector within its own organization. During this period, Cevahir also undertook projects that attracted worldwide attention. Completed in 1996, the Istanbul Esenler Bus Terminal was inaugurated as the largest bus terminal in Europe and the third largest in the world with an area of 320,000 m2, 324 platforms and a capacity to carry 1 million passengers. Completed in 2005, the Cevahir Istanbul Shopping and Entertainment Center was the largest shopping center in Europe and the second largest in the world with its 425,000 m2 area, 500,000 visitor capacity, 360 stores, 34 dining units, a 22,000 m2 entertainment area, a 9,000 m2 cinema complex including 13 movie theaters and a theater, 1,000 parking spaces, and a 25-meter-high, 25-meter-tall parking lot. It was the subject of many international publications and made an impression all over the world with its unique architectural structure with its 25-meter-high elevated stage, 2,500 m2 glass roof, and the world’s largest clock on its roof.
Biz Cevahir was established in 2006, and after this year, it has produced its own projects independent of its subsidiary the Cevahir Holding. As of 2006, the company has created the infrastructure for the projects it undertakes by making land and real estate investments. These projects were all realized with its own equity and undertaken by the company itself. In 2011, the Biz Cevahir Sultanahmet Hotel started its operations in one of the most beautiful locations in Sultanahmet with its unique architecture. In 2013, the Biz Cevahir Hotel Istanbul started its operations in the best location of Mecidiköy, adding a new value to the region with its unique European architecture, and Biz Cevahir continued to expand its activities in the field of tourism with these investments. In addition to tourism investments, Biz Cevahir continued to invest in construction, one of its main fields of activity, and realized the Ferahevler Villas project consisting of luxury villas. Biz Cevahir continued its investments in Eyüpsultan, one of the most important historical sites of Istanbul, with the opening of the Biz Cevahir Haliç Shopping Center in 2016. The Biz Cevahir Shopping Center is one of the largest investments in the region with its 47,000 m2 closed area, 101 independent sections with stores consisting of the country’s largest retail brands, a parking lot with a capacity of 400 vehicles, and with its high-tech, energy-friendly and sustainable building designed as a continuation of the local texture.
The Biz Cevahir Hotel Istanbul, have continued our operations as DoubleTree by Hilton Esentepe since 2019 through a partnership with the Hilton brand. The hotel has been awarded the ‘Connie Award’, which is Hilton’s most prestigious award, separately for all brands in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region in the years 2021 and 2023 among DoubleTree by Hilton Hotels.
